Students raise their concerns

It is with great disappointment that I write this. On behalf of all the interns placed by Nkangala FET College via services SETA I am very dismayed by the issues we are facing as students right now. We were contacted by Nkangala FET to say our internship applications were successful, that was great news to us. We wanted nothing more than to gain experience in our courses so that was the best news ever. As required by the college, we went and submitted all supporting documents they needed from us and then signed contracts with them.

The contract signed on April 30 it is an 18 month programme for the Nated courses students. It is clearly outlined in the contract that we will receive our stipend amounting to R1 500 at the last day of each month but sadly that is just written in the contract but it’s not practiced. When we were contacted we were told that if we choose to start in March it will be voluntarily but we will be paid at the end of April.

Fortunately some of us were paid but unfortunately some students haven’t been paid till thus far. Whenever we call to ask for updates their phones are never answered or if they answer them they give us lame new excuses every month.
We are tired of people making promises to us and failing to deliver. As students we live far away from our homes and that little they promised was supposed to help us commute and feed ourselves during the course of the contract. We are really stressed because we really want to finish our training so that we can be able to obtain our diplomas… to us this is just not about the money to us.

We humbly ask service SETA and Nkangala FET to set their records straight otherwise we are willing to take further steps.

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
