Pollard met up with his new teammates straight out of the IRB Junior World Championship in New Zealand where the Baby Boks lost by a single point to England in the final.
Meyer has rated Pollard highly from the start and if it wasn’t the IRB’s appeal to have him in the Junior Boks’ squad for the tournament, he would have already been in the Bok squad from the beginning of June.
Pollard’s inclusion in the squad is timely after Meyer allowed Morne Steyn to return back to his club side in France, freeing up the flyhalf role.
The official squad will be revealed on Wednesday and it is expected that Pollard will be handed his debut from the starting XV in once-off test against the Scots.
Possible Bok team: Willie le Roux, Cornal Hendricks, JP Pietersen, Jan Serfontein, Lwazi Mvovo, Handre Pollard, Fourie du Preez, Duane Vermeulen, Schalk Burger/Willem Alberts, Marcel Coetzee, Victor Matfield (capt), Lood de Jager, Jannie du Plessis, Bismarck du Plessis, Coenie Oosthuizen.
