Bowls pairs finals this weekend

The last rounds and the finals of the Mpumalanga central men and ladies pairs will be played on Saturday February 1, at the Witbank Club.

So far the men competed in four sections of six teams each. The men’s semi-finals will be at 09:00 between the teams Deon Vermeulen, Johan van Backstrom vs Gavin Shoobert and Cornel van Backstrom and between Gerard O’connell and Flof du Toit vs Jannie Brandow and Eben Fourie.

The ladies play in two sections of eight teams and will play their last round at 11:00. In both the men’s and the ladies’ competition the finals, as well as the third and fourth place playoffs will be held at 14:00. Expect some good bowls to be played.
Entries for the mixed pairs closed on January 22. A good number of teams entered and the draws are available at the clubs, as well as the venues where the games will be played.

Over the past weekend a successful practise of the teams selected for Mpumalanga, was held at Lowveld Country Club (LVCC) in Nelspruit. Fifteen players of the central zone are part of the 48 players that will represent Mpumalanga in the provincial Tournament that will be played from March 10 to March 14.

The open A teams play the Southern Free State district. The B teams play the border and the senior team play in Gauteng North.
The 31 annual Atlas Copco tournament is scheduled to be played on February 15 and 16 at Witbank Club.

The organisers would like to thank all teams who entered for their support. Only two teams can still be accommodated. Interested players can contact them on 082 055 0419 or on 082 325 1216.

The entry fee is still R600 per team of four, which will include morning tea, and lunch. Five games of 15 ends will be played on a skins format with strength verses strength, after the first round. A big cash prize as well as other prizes can be won.
