Dodging the rain.

The sponsored Hunter Mpumalanga Championships was held at Witbank Yacht and Aquatic Club (WYAC) on the very full Witbank Dam.

The successful race took place on March 8 to March 9 despite the wet weather and the absence of visiting yachties. Four to five races was done in light wind conditions, in winds of four to five knots these races were completed on Saturday before the rain arrived.

In a stronger breeze and after an early start, another four races set over longer courses, were completed on Sunday giving enough completed races for a championship result.

At the prize giving held on Sunday, the overall winners were: John Bruckmann and David Martinson (from WYAC) were in first place, Colin Hay and Ulrich Kind (from WYAC) were in second place and Barry Ogilvie (sponsor) and John Wegerle (from WYAC) were in third place.

The sponsorship for the Championship event by Witbank Electrical Wholesale Agency was greatly appreciated by competitors. This event was a warm-up for the start of the long weekend of March 21, March 22 and March 23, when five to six WYAC members will be towing their boats to Midmar Dam to compete in the Hunter National Championship.
