Greenside Open win for Ryan

Ryan Stenzel adds another trophy to his collection after taking the Greenside Open.

The Greenside Golf Club Open Championship was played by a full field on Sunday, March 23. After the heavy, record rainfall, in March, the course was still wet and played very long. The greens were in excellent condition and in order to make it challenging, a number of pins were placed in thought provoking positions that required good iron play and excellent putting skills.

Ryan Stenzel, a junior golfer from Witbank Golf Club won the Greenside Open by a single stroke over the 36 holes from Jan Jacobs. Ryan started slowly with a 75 in the morning but finished strongly with a one under par 71 in the afternoon to win by just one stroke on 146.

This is Ryan’s first entry into a senior event in 2014 as he is in Matric year at St Thomas Aquinas and is focusing on his schoolwork and his last year of junior golf. Second was Jan Jacobs from Bank Golf Club on 147 and in third place was Devon Strydom also from Witbank Golf Club on 149. The best nett was won by H. Makopaneon on a score of 144, runner up in the nett was P. Mothaon a score of 148.

Thanks were given to the management and staff of Greenside Golf Club and members of the Greenside committee for hosting a wonderful event. Thanks were also given to Nicky Young who sponsored the food and prizes for this event.
