Dancers reach for new shores
A group of dancers from Reach Dance Academy have their eyes set on New York and Disney Europe after receiving their South African colours for dancing.
The National Talent Africa competition took place from March 27 to 30 at Roodepoort Theatre.
Layla van Heerden received three gold medals for Street fighters (hip-hop), Open (Africa) and Musical (Pink Panther).
She received her South African colours and qualifier to go through to New York and Disney Europe.
Donovinn Stemmet received gold medals for his open dance and hip-hop solo. Three of his group dances also won gold medals.
Donovinn and Sonette van Jaarsveld got a silver medal for their contemporary duet and in two other group dances received silver medals.
Donovinn was selected as one of the top 10 dancers. He qualifies to go to New York to take part in Talent America and to go to Disney Europe.
The junior group participated in three items and received a gold medal and two silver medals.
Joané van Jaarsveld participated in two dance items and they both received two bronze medals.
Sonette van Jaarsveld danced in a solo dance and got a silver medal for her dance.
The senior dance group that consist of Nadine Duvenhage, Donovinn Stemmet, Andrea Coetzee, Grizelda Coetzee, Anchen Bezuidenhour, Sonette van Jaarsveld and Anje Calitz, danced in five items and for three items received gold medals and for the other two received silver medals.
Anchan Bezuidenhout danced in two solo events and she obtained a gold medal and a silver medal.
Chané Opperman is a part of junior showgirl group and the group obtained one gold and two silver medals. The group has been chosen to take part in Talent America in New York and Disney Europe.
