In the blink of an eye your car could be gone

Cars being stolen in our town doesn’t shock or surprise the residents of eMalahleni anymore. The rate at which vehicles are being stolen are increasing daily.

It is alleged that on Friday, 4 May a truck driver nearly got hijacked while waiting to load on a nearby mine. Allegedly at about 02:00 the driver decided to take a nap while waiting in the line. He allegedly woke up when he felt the truck started to shake. When he looked out of the window he noticed five men allegedly trying to open the truck. The suspects allegedly managed to open the door.

It is believed that the suspects tied the driver up and left him on the back seat. They allegedly drove off for about 5km and then stopped. The suspects started to remove the tyres from the truck. The driver then allegedly heard several gunshots from different directions. It is believed that a man from PFK Recovery Services came to his rescue.

The alleged suspects could not take the truck because they were caught red handed.

Motor vehicles stolen, owners left stranded

Earlier on the night of May 4 a Toyota Hilux was the target of hijackers. It is alleged that at about 20:45 the driver was reversing out of a well known guest house to go and buy food. It is believed that out of nowhere two unknown African males appeared and got into the car. The suspects allegedly ordered the man to drive to Bronkhorstspruit.

Once they arrived at Bronkhorstspruit they demanded his card and pin. It is believed that the suspects withdrew a big amount of money. The suspects left the man in the bushes and drove off. The Toyota Hilux was later recovered in Bronkhorstspruit.

On Thursday, May 3 another man fell into the trap of hijackers. It is alleged that he was driving a white BMW on his way to Highveld Mall. He stopped at the red light by the mall off ramp when three unknown African males approached him. It is believed that they pointed a firearm at him and demanded him to open the door.

Once the door was open the suspects allegedly climbed into the car and tied the suspect with his own shoelaces.

The suspects drove towards unknown bushes and the man managed to run away. The suspect took off in the Johannesburg direction.

The vehicle was later recovered in Soweto.
