Ward 23 committee joins in the celebration of Mandela Month

Students kick off the new term with new diaries and pens.

This year marks the 104th anniversary of the late former president Nelson Mandela’s birth, and the Ward 23 committee went out of their way to honour the great man by commemorating his legacy in schools.

On Tuesday, July 19 the ward 23 committee, led by ward councillor Klass Mbete in collaboration with Sekankoe Engineering celebrated Mandela Month with a visit to two schools under the theme “do what you can with what you have and where you are.”

The ward 23 committee donated 350 sanitary pads, 250 diaries, and pens to Phillip Ndimande Secondary School and Black Hill Primary School. Students were also encouraged by the team as the third team of the school year has begun.

According to Clr Mbete, the purpose of the Mandela Month celebration in schools is to motivate and support students to attend school on a daily basis and perform well in their studies.
