Hijackings surge as criminals take advantage of motorists

One victim was allegedly robbed at a petrol station in the CBD.

Hijackings are seemingly on the rise in eMalahleni as they are reported almost on a weekly basis.

This comes after two vehicles were allegedly hijacked on the same day in eMalahleni.

According to the report, it is believed that the victim (35) was travelling from Middelburg to Vosman on Friday, August 4 at around 09:00.

The victim allegedly made a stop at the nearest petrol station in the Central Business District (CBD) on Mandela Street.

Two male suspects supposedly appeared from the side of the road and threatened the victim with a firearm.

It is said that the suspects then allegedly kidnapped the victim and later dropped him off at an unknown location in Vosman before they fled the scene with his vehicle.

Later that day yet another vehicle was hijacked in the City of Coal.

The victim (24) was reportedly driving a red Volkswagen Polo at the Central Business District (CBD) at around 19:00 with his girlfriend on a fateful night.

It is believed that when he was on his way to pick up more occupants on Kruger Street, two male suspects approached the victim and threatened him with a firearm.

Thereafter the suspects allegedly stole the victim’s vehicle before fleeing the scene.
