A gang of men recently assaulted and robbed co-workers of their phones, laptops, and clothes after they left their door open in their place of residence.
According to George Dzingai, who resides in a house on Corporal Street at Tasbet Park Extension 3, on October 10, around 19:30, his colleagues were sitting outside the front door, as there was no electricity, leaving the door open.

When the electricity was restored, everyone went back in, but no one remembered to close the door.

“That was when the problems started,” George said.

Moments later, they were shocked by unwelcome guests who suddenly barged into their house. It was a gang of four allegedly armed men who assaulted the five guys found in the house, leaving three injured. They robbed them of their phones, some clothes, and laptops.

“We suspect that it’s people who had been moving around and scouting the area to find an opportunity to attack, and unfortunately, our door was open,” George said.

The injured guys were rushed to the hospital for medical attention but are currently back home, waiting to recover fully before returning to work.

George advises that people should always keep their doors locked, no matter how safe an area may seem to be.

“We were so comfortable in the area, believing that it was safe, as we had not heard any stories before,” he said, adding that people should also avoid sitting outside at night, especially if the residence has no security.

Police are currently investigating the case.

“We are appealing to anyone who saw or has information about this incident to come forward,” said a spokesperson for the station, David Ratau. “Community cooperation is vital to bring those responsible to justice.”

Police also encouraged the public to report tips anonymously via Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
