Kwa-Guqa man loses vehicle few hours after purchase

The police urge people to stop buying cars online and visit garages directly, practising extra caution in all processes involved.

A moment of intense joy turned into a devastating nightmare for a local man who was robbed of his newly acquired bakkie just hours after driving it home.
According to Bhekumuzi Gumede, on November 21, he accompanied his father to buy his vehicle at a garage in Gauteng, but due to delays, they returned late.

“When we got home, everyone came out and celebrated the new vehicle,” he said, adding that his father and brother accompanied him afterward, but upon return to their place in Kwa-Guqa, the nightmare unfolded as three men suddenly appeared, with one of them armed. Gumede said that the armed man pointed his father with the firearm, while the other two rushed to attack the brother, who managed to escape.

“As they took the bakkie, they attempted to drive off with my dad, and that was when he told them to just take the vehicle and leave him alone,” Gumede said, adding that they eventually let go of his father and drove off as he ran into the house.

They rushed to the police station to report the matter with hopes that they would be able to track it down. Unfortunately, to date, the search for the stolen vehicle is still underway.
Captain Vusi Mnisi from Vosman SAPS confirmed that the police are continuing to work diligently to locate the stolen vehicle.
He urged anyone who may have information regarding the case or the stolen vehicle to contact the police immediately.

“We advise people to stop buying cars online and make time to visit the garage to see if it is a legit dealership. Also, avoid going alone, as that could make you an easy target,” he said, further urging anyone who may have information on the case to contact the police.
