Workplace grudge turns violent

He thought he was safe at home… until a former colleague followed him and turned violent.

A man in Clarendon Street was allegedly robbed and assaulted at his home by a former colleague.

According to police, the incident occurred on January 21, when the victim was followed from his workplace by someone known to him.

Upon arriving at his residence, the man allegedly forced his way into the victim’s room, where he stole a speaker and a television.

During the confrontation, the man reportedly assaulted the victim and threatened him with a knife.

Police said the man accused the victim of being responsible for him losing his job.

A case of robbery with aggravating circumstances and assault has been opened, and investigations are ongoing.

SAPS advised: “Always be aware of your surroundings and any suspicious behaviour, even from people you know. Avoid walking alone at night and stick to well-lit, busy streets whenever possible. Travel in a group if you can, or let someone know your route and expected arrival time. Keep your doors and windows locked at home at all times, and consider installing security lights or cameras. Trust your instincts; if something feels off, remove yourself from the situation immediately.”
