News editor scoops up third place

Zita Goldswain brought this award home for the community.

The highly anticipated 2025 AVBOB FCJ Excellence Awards are done and dusted and Witbank News’ news editor Zita Goldswain scooped up an award.

Zita came third in the news photography category.

She also secured ninth place in Digital Reporting and seventh place in Editorial Comment.

More than 600 entries were received across 17 categories.

Dr André Gouws of Akademia, who oversaw the adjudication process said, “This year’s competition reflects a healthy and evolving community newspaper sector. The judging panel congratulates all entrants and hopes that the feedback they will receive will encourage even greater excellence in the years ahead.”

The awards are supported by AVBOB, with Caxton Local Media, Novus Community Media and Stellenbosch University.

The gala event was held on August 21.
