Sanca walk just days away

‘Every Step Counts’ at this year's Sanca/ZO ‘Walk Away from Drugs’ event set for this weekend in Richards Bay

The final countdown is on ahead of the Sanca/ZO ‘Walk Away from Drugs’ event, scheduled for this Saturday, 5 September.

With the theme ‘Every Step Counts’, this will be the 20th holding of the important event – especially in the context of the ongoing drug and alcohol effect on society at large, and young people in particular.

The purpose of the annual walk is to show solidarity with Sanca, by promoting the excellent work it does in the community and spreading the word of the services it offers.

But above all, it is a spring day for fun and creativity, as walkers and sponsors express their anti-drug messages and advocate better lifestyles.

Once again, the walk – not a race! – takes place from the beautiful grounds of the Zululand Yacht Club, with a gentle, colourful and loud walk from the club grounds along the dirt road to the Bay Ball, and back on the same route.

Participants will each receive a hot dog on arrival, courtesy of Bluff Meat Supplies and Lakeside Spar, and a medal at the finish.

As per tradition, before the walk begins there will be a karate demonstration led by Sensei Kobus Riekert, interactive with his willing audience, and the famous warm-up/dance workout with the CaféGym instructors and Ocean Audio sound, before setting off on the 5km stroll.

Sponsored water tables are placed along the route, with a MedCare24 ambulance on standby ‘just in case’.

Entry donation is R20 for adults and R5 for children, and the invitation to join is open to any school, club, business, family, faith-based group or other entity.

Sponsorship, prizes and hand-outs would be welcomed.

The Sanca office can be contacted on 035 7723290 for more details or call Dave on 060 9719249.
