Level 4 storm warning issued for coastal Zululand

SAWS warns coastal Zululand of heavy rain, damaging winds, hail and lightning, with flooding risks expected.

ZULULANDERS are in for a stormy afternoon as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a level 4 thunderstorm warning for the region for today (Tuesday).

With multiple warnings across KZN, and different areas affected to varying degrees, residents are urged to take the necessary precautions.

For the Zululand coastal region, the yellow level 4 warning means heavy downpours, damaging winds, and hail and lightning.

This could lead to the flooding of roads, settlements and low-lying areas, potential injuries and danger to life, damage or loss of infrastructure, as well as damage to settlements, vehicles, livelihoods and livestock.

Inland Zululand is under a yellow level 2 warning, which could include heavy downpours, hail and lightning, and damaging winds.

The SAWS urges residents to take heed of weather warnings and not to take unnecessary risks during the unsettled weather.
