21 species 2018 Please catch and release ‘Let them go, let them grow’.

This is the message that Meerensee Boat Club is sending to all participants of the 21 Species competition, running from 6 to 8 July this year. Entrants have a strict benchmark to stick to, and the club asks that anglers catch and release any other species or sizes that won’t qualify for the competition. Responsible fishing (to catch and release) is an important aspect of ocean conservation. Overfishing is a massive problem, depleting the ocean of fish and leading to many of our fish species being on the verge of extinction. By releasing the fish, you give it a chance to grow and become the next generation of big fish. You also give the fish a chance to reproduce, and with everyone’s cooperation, it could help to restore fish populations. Children entering Meerensee Boat Club’s ‘Catch and Release Kids’ competition during the weekend of the 21 Species, will also be taught the value of responsible fishing.
