Moffatt Optical
Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre

October is Eye Care Awareness Month and Moffatt Optical, in conjunction with ActionCOACH, is offering local business owners a free eye screening assessment and a complimentary business assessment.

To kick-start the campaign, staff of the Zululand Observer were invited to have their eyes tested at Moffatt Optical in the Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre on October 1.

Optometrists Corliza Landsberg and Sanele Buthelezi conducted the tests.

They tested visual acuity (the ability of the eye to see fine detail) with an autorefractor, as well as a retinal examination with the help of a fundus camera. This test detects eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, diabetes, high blood pressure and foreign objects.

‘We do not only test for glasses – this is a primary health check,’ says Corliza.

Sanele agrees. ‘The eyes are truly the windows of the body.’

Both optometrists agree that the most rewarding aspects of their work is to improve people’s quality of life.

The passionate and bubbly Corliza Landsberg has 23 years’ experience in optometry. After obtaining her qualification in optometry at the Rand Afrikaans University (now University of Johannesburg) she settled down in Richards Bay to start her own practice.

Having qualified as an optometrist at UKZN, Sanele Buthelezi has been in the industry for 10 years. The charismatic optometrist has travelled across South Africa and in 2016 joined Moffatt Optical in Richards Bay.

‘It feels good to see the smile on a person’s face when they put on their new glasses for the first time,’ he says.

Sanele’s other passions include mathematics and singing. He is the proud father of an eight-year-old boy.

In her spare time, you will find Corliza wearing a helmet and cruising somewhere on a motorbike or aeroplane.

Book your next eye appointment with them at 035 789 7204.

CREATING A VISION

When you begin the process of strategic planning, visioning comes first. When visioning the change, ask yourself, “What is our preferred future?” and be sure to:

  • Draw on the beliefs, mission, and environment of the organization.
  • Describe what you want to see in the future.
  • Be specific to each organization.
  • Be positive and inspiring.
  • Do not assume that the system will have the same framework as it does today.
  • Be open to dramatic modifications to current organization, methodology, teaching techniques, facilities, etc.

Key Components for Your Vision

Incorporate Your Beliefs

Your vision must be encompassed by your beliefs.

  • Your beliefs must meet your organizational goals as well as community goals.
  • Your beliefs are a statement of your values.
  • Your beliefs are a public/visible declaration of your expected outcomes.
  • Your beliefs must be precise and practical.
  • Your beliefs will guide the actions of all involved.
  • Your beliefs reflect the knowledge, philosophy, and actions of all.
  • Your beliefs are a key component of strategic planning.
