Birthday party with a difference
Uriska Harripersadh celebrates her 15th birthday with new friends
OPENING her heart to the needy in a unique way, Grade 9 Grantleigh pupil Uriska Harripersadh recently celebrated her 15th birthday by blessing the Lungelo Youth Centre in Mzingazi.
Uriska requested friends and family to, instead of presenting her with birthday gifts, rather treat the underprivileged toddlers at the centre.
The party started off with a short prayer and praise and worship session, after which the kids were treated to a strongman demo, yummy treats, games and presents. Each gift donor was able to meet their nominated child and hand over gifts to them personally.
Xteme medics also attended the party and volunteered to examine the children’s general health free of charge.
Sixty extra kids attended and were all fortunate enough to receive a toy from Wimpy Empangeni.
Uriska’s mum Valencia thanked Protea Hotel for donating books for centre’s library, as well as soaps and lotions for the children.
Jumping castles were sponsored by Lindi Pooe and Sign force distributed sweet buckets and promised to assist Mary with the remaining items on her wish list for the Centre.’
Lungelo Youth Centre founder Mary Mlambo struggled to find the right words to describe Sunday’s event.
‘It really was extremely special. What Uriska did lifted spirits of many and it is something no one can put monetary value to.’
