Sanca ‘walk’ gets new gears
This year's Sanca/Bay Watch 'Walk Away from Drugs will add a 'Pedal and Paddle angainst Peddlers' dimension

THE annual Sanca/Bay Watch ‘Walk Away from Drugs’ event is set for Saturday 26 October and a forced change of venue has in fact helped to give it new dimensions.
With Alkantstrand occupied due to the Hippo Rally, organisers of the walk have earmarked the Zululand Yacht Club – an ideal start and end venue for a gentle 6km stroll around Naval Island.
And the major community event will have at least one more attraction, with Piet and Louise Calitz taking on the task of arranging an MTB ‘Pedal against Peddlers’ ride on the same day.
Sanca committee member Judy Dearling also has her mind set on a ‘Paddle against Peddlers’ event, probably both the stand-up and sit-down paddle versions.
As usual there will be plenty of water tables and activities along the route, which will kindly be manned by marshal volunteers, with Netcare 911 on the route ‘just in case’.
The organising committee is hard at work to make this the best-ever walk and are sourcing prizes to go along with the computer and printer donated each year by BHP Billiton.
Once again, activities on the day will be oriented to family fun, with plenty of music and refreshments.
Entrants will each get a medal.
