Zulus flock to KwaDukuza to honour Shaka

THE rainy weather did not keep the crowds away from the celebration the life of His Majesty King Shaka ka Senzangakhona at a traditional ceremony at KwaDukuza.

Umkhosi weLembe (King Shaka Commemoration Day) saw people coming in their numbers, dressed in traditional Zulu attire despite the cold weather.

Acting KZN Premier Senzo Mchunu acknowledged the important role King Shaka played in building a powerful nation.

‘It is very important to respect and embrace our culture because that’s what defines us. By doing so it helps to build a strong, disciplined and tolerant nation,’ said Mchunu.

MEC of Arts and Culture, Ntombikayise Sibidla-Saphetha, thanked members of the public for attending and continuing to show interest in knowing more about their culture.

In closing, His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini Zulu, was joined by his guests, including Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, the queens, amakhosi and Mchunu in chanting Zulu songs while performing the ‘zokugiya’, a traditional Zulu dance.
