March and March heads to eSikhaleni
Civic group March and March members plan to picket in eSikhaleni on Saturday, demanding local business reservations and by-law enforcement.
CIVIC group March and March members have vowed to bring eSikhaleni to a standstill this Saturday.
Their picket will commence at eSikhaleni Mall and proceed to eSikhaleni Police Station, where they are expected to hand over a memorandum of grievances.
The movement’s King Cetshwayo Region chairperson, Xolani Gumede, said all systems are ready, the protest has been sanctioned, and it has received overwhelming support from its national leadership to proceed.
Gumede added that salon and street hawkers are among the economic activities the movement wants reserved for locals.
“We have notified all relevant stakeholders and today concluded a Section 4 meeting with the municipality,” said Gumede.
The upcoming demonstration forms part of a broader wave against undocumented immigrants across multiple regions, affecting informal jobs and the local economy.
It comes amid preparations for a mega national shutdown called by the movement by the end of June.
Among other demands by the movement’s local structures is for the City of uMhlathuze to enforce its by-laws.
Gumede further called upon individuals to desist from sharing fake misleading posts on social media, saying those doing so will be reported to the relevant authorities as they are misrepresenting the movement.
