Donate blood at Zululand clinics

SANBS urges the public to donate blood as supplies in KZN are critically low

WITH less than a day’s blood stock available in the province, the South Africa National Blood Service (SANBS) is urging the public to donate blood and help boost supplies.

South Africa’s blood stock is extremely low with less than two days’ reserves available, while in KZN blood stock is less than a day.

As the levels are way below the required five days’ supply, SANBS Head of Marketing KZN, Charles Maharaj, is calling on regular donors to make their way to the nearest donor centre or mobile clinic to help maintain adequate stock levels.

‘The recent school holidays may have contributed to this, however as we move to the festive season we are looking to community organisations, schools, tertiary institutions and businesses to support our call and help us increase our blood collections,’ he said.

Locals can visit the Richards Bay Blood Donor Centre at Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre or mobile clinics held across Zululand.
