Bus passengers fear for their lives

UTHUNGULU Bus Services has hit the news again; and this time it’s about bus number 628 which ferries teachers from Empangeni to Sabhuza, KwaMthethwa.

This time the bone of contention between the teachers and the bus company is the state of the buses.

Aaron Dlamini who stays in Empangeni and travels to school on 628 bus every day has reached a state of despair.

‘Some of the buses are falling apart, putting us in harm’s way, and dusts from the roads gets in everywhere, becoming part of our clothing.’

Dlamini further alleges they have written numerous letters to the bus company in an attempt to make them rectify the situation, but all in vain.

The passengers feel they are at their wits’ end about the situation; with the bus company management not willing to negotiate with them nor listen to their plight.

Dlamini feels the only explanation he can come up with is ‘the company doesn’t care about our welfare, as long as it continues making profits out of our miseries’.
