TRAPS for wild dogs set by SPCA inspectors have nabbed the wrong four-legged friends in Empangeni.
Roland Fivaz is at his wits end after a three week project has heeded just one feral dog, and numerous residential pets.
‘We noticed there are dogs from the township living in the parks and green belt areas. So about five weeks ago we started a feeding programme and then set out traps,’ he said.
However instead of catching the unvaccinated, wild dogs, the inspector found family dogs in the cages.
‘This is costing us money for bait and staff time,’ said Fivaz.
Fivaz said the Empangeni SPCA was doing a community service and this was wasting their time.
He urged pet owners to keep their dogs in their properties so they do not roam in the streets.
‘The residents’ dogs are eating the bait and then we have to reset traps and have the arduous task of finding the owners of the dogs. If this happens again, we are going to impound the animals,’ he said.
