Quick action controls Alton blaze

No injuries in Alton fire

HEAVY black smoke rose from a fire that enveloped broken portable toilets, truck parts and tyres on the open site next to Sanitech in Alton on Friday.

While toilet hire company Sanitech stated they do not know what started the fire, a witness at the site said a welding torch was reportedly used on the property, which may have ignited the inferno.

‘Fortunately the uMhlathuze Fire Department reached the fire in time and extinguished all the flames within an hour, so it didn’t spread and reach other businesses,’ said witness Nikki De Bruyn.

Sanitech confirmed no employees were hurt and no case was opened at the Richards Bay SAP.
