Meet the ‘Mo Men’
Are you joining the Movember movement? Start growing a moustache today!
PUTTING away their shaving blades, gels and machines, men across Zululand joined the global ‘Movember’ campaign on Friday.
Since 2009, each November has seen South African men growing moustaches to raise vital funds for care and support provided by the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) for men affected by cancer. CANSA ensures the funds are channelled mainly into care and support programmes for men affected by testicular and prostate cancer, as well as into prostate cancer research.
‘Cancer is one of the main health concerns men face in South Africa, with one in 23 men being diagnosed with prostate cancer – the most common cancer among South African men,’ said CANSA CEO Sue Janse van Rensburg.
‘And testicular cancer is most common in men between the ages of 15 and 39. The awareness created by a high-profile fun campaign such as Movember, is done in a non-threatening way. CANSA’s key message to men is to take charge of their personal well-being and to be proactive with early detection of cancer.
Official Movember rules for growing and grooming a Mo:
Every year Mo Bros and Sistas have to re-register on Movember.com. Each Mo Bro must begin 1 November with a clean shaven face
For the entire month of Movember each Mo Bro must grow and groom a moustache
There is to be no joining of the Mo to your side burns. That’s considered a beard
There is to be no joining of the handlebars to your chin. That’s considered a goatee
Each Mo Bro must conduct himself like a true gentleman…
Zululanders are urged to join the campaign by registering on www.movember.com.
