THERE was welcome relief for Zululand motorist on Wednesday as the price of petrol dropped by 28 cents per litre.
The Energy Department also announced that diesel will decrease by between 15 and 17 cents, while the single maximum national retail price of illuminating paraffin will drop by 22 cents per litre.
‘Petrol prices are regulated,’ explained the manager of a local Empangeni petrol station ‘but diesel prices do fluctuate from station to station as diesel prices are non-regulated’
The contributing factors towards the decrease included the drop in the Brent crude oil price, a lower demand for fuel in North America and Europe with winter approaching, as well as
the strengthening of the Rand against the US Dollar and a decrease in the self-adjusting slate levy mechanism rules.
This is a welcome reprieve with the festive season around the corner.
