PUPILS at the rural Ingalangala Primary School outside eSikhaleni are looking forward to next year.
When they return to school after the holidays, they will be greeted by construction workers starting work on five brand new classrooms and proper fencing, courtesy of Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) and the uThungulu District Municipality.
On Wednesday a sod turning ceremony for the new facilities was held.
RBM Managing Director Mpho Mothoa said, ‘I am pleased to note that the School Governing Body (SGB) plays an important role in ensuring things operate smoothly. It was the SGB who
appealed to Deputy Mayor Mashaba for support and through the strong partnership between RBM and the uThungulu District Municipality, we are able to assist with the fencing and further in building infrastructure to the value of R1.5million.
‘Building will begin in February and is expected to be completed by October, and we believe these classrooms will support the quality education already on offer,’ said Mothoa.
uThungulu Deputy Mayor Thulani Mashaba also pleaded with the community to stand together and help fight criminal activities in the area, which contributed to the school being vandalised.
