20 year sentence for child rapist

Neighbour rapes 12-year-old girl

THE KwaDlangezwa rapist who lured his 12-year-old victim by offering her accommodation, but later sexually assaulted her in December 2006, was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment at the eSikhawini Regional Magistrate’s Court.

Nkosingiphile Nkwanyana (25) from eNkonjane Reserve in KwaDlangezwa, was arrested after the victim was found naked in his room by family members.

The victim told the court that she ran away from home that day because her grandmother had promised to punish her for playing at another family’s home.

It was revealed that the victim ran away and hid herself in the bathroom of Nkwanyana’s family house and he offered her a place to stay in his room.

‘He said he would help me hide in his room so that my grandma wouldn’t find me. He then asked me to take off my clothes and wear his T-shirt because I was wet, but then refused to leave while I changed.

‘I trusted him because his was my neighbour, but he then raped me,’ said the victim.

Her grandmother testified that when they went to the room, they spotted her granddaughter’s T-shirt on the bed., and she was later found covered in linen.

The victim later told the family about the rape incident, leading to Nkwanyana’s arrest. A medical assessment was conducted and rape confirmed.
