Scrap metal bust

Scrap metal dealers to work with SAPS

TWO suspects were cuffed and charged with possession of suspected stolen property after attempting to sell 1 380kg of steel brackets and bolts at a scrap metal dealer in Alton last week.

Richards Bay SAPS spokesperson Captain Debbie Ferreira said staff at Atlas Scrap Metal Dealers informed police of two men selling the large consignment of metal.

On further investigation, the property was identified as Telkom’s, with an estimated value of R12 000.

‘The police appreciate the cooperation of scrap metal dealers and their efforts to combat the rise of non ferrous metal thefts.

‘We call on all dealers to work hand in hand with police and report all suspicious metals handed in,’ said Ferreira.

Suspects are expected to appear in the Richards Bay Magistrates Court.
