Heavy fines for Thanda

The PSL Disciplinary Committee has slapped R100 000 fines on Thanda Royal FC and its GM, Thabane Gumede

AS if their dismal performances on the field were not enough, Thanda Royal Zulu FC found themselves with more problems last week when huge misconduct fines were imposed by the sport’s governing body.

General Manager Thabane Gumede and the club were charged with offences arising from an incident on 10 November ‘when Gumede insulted and attempted to assault a match official Olani Kwinda after a match against United FC’, according to a PSL Disciplinary Committee media advisory issued on Thursday.

Gumede had vented his anger after Thanda’s Velile Zitha was sent off following an alleged dangerous tackle – effectively costing Amabhubesi the match.

Both parties pleaded guilty as charged.

Gumede was suspended for four league matches and fined R100 000, of which R75 000 was suspended for a period of 12 months.

Thanda Royal Zulu FC was fined R100 000, suspended in total for a period of 12 months.

The parties were ordered to pay the costs of the hearing and Gumede was also ordered to furnish a written apology to the match official within seven days.
