FIELD rangers patrolling in the Emakhosini-Ophathe Heritage Park near Ulundi, shot and killed two suspected poachers on Friday night.
Combing the park on foot, the rangers encountered the armed suspects just before midnight.
They warned the men to stop, but they instead turned to face the rangers and pointed their weapons at them.
A number of shots were fired and both suspects were subsequently shot.
One man died on the scene and the other was seriously wounded but was found dead during follow-up operations.
None of the field rangers were injured.
