A WEEK after three Richards Bay women were allegedly attacked, assaulted and verbally abused outside a bar, two men have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
Daniel Roux and Hendrick Heerden appeared briefly in the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court last Thursday on common assault charges and the matter was postponed for further investigation until 9 April.
The three women reported they had been assaulted and racially attacked outside The Ranch bar in Essenwood Way, Arboretum two weeks ago.
Two of them had had drinks inside the establishment and left to fetch a friend, however, they alleged when they returned, they were refused entry by patrons standing at the entrance of the premises.
They were told to go somewhere else as this was ‘not a place for Blacks’ and it is believed a brawl unfolded where the women were manhandled, beaten and bruised while having racial remarks directed at them.
The women were outraged that in this day and age, racism is still so rife and were heart sore the incident had occurred on Human Rights Day.
