A project fit for a princess

Empangeni pupil without arms wins hearts and sponsorship.

AFTER the Zululand Observer published the story of Richem Secondary School Grade 9 pupil, Princess Sithole – born without arms and uses her feet to write, and very neatly at that – Zululanders have rallied to extend lending a helping hand.

District 9370 Rotary Club has stepped up and offered their help to assist Sithole overcome some of her challenges.

‘Thanks to Zululand Remedial Centre assisting with advice of their occupational therapists, we were able to formulate a design for an ergonomic table for Princess that is easily moveable by her classmates,’ said District 9370 Rotary Club member Eric Bernon.

‘Umfolozi Wood Creations Design and Fabrication worked on the desk, Empangeni Auto Renovators on a fully adjustable car seat, Haig’s Mowers tackled the wheels, Glasson Steel sorted out the axel and M-Tech Engineering helped with the fabrication of the axel. Conrad Meyer, on behalf of Onsite Computers in Richards Bay, has donated an audio to text laptop.

‘Our goal was to try and make life a little more comfortable for this little warrior so she can achieve her full potential without having to be concerned with trivial things like physical disability,’ said Bernon.
