Milford FC bag the points after stunning late winner

Milford FC's 95th-minute goal secures them a win against Magesi FC at uMhlathuze Stadium

The Stallions left it late but this just added to the elation of the host of fans, as their 95th-minute goal against Magesi FC put them in the pound seats in the three-way PSL promotion race.

After a ding-dong, goalless first half at the uMhlathuze Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, in which the visitors wasted a couple of clear chances and home keeper Siphamandla Hleza pulled off two great saves, it was Milford who gradually gained the upper hand.

The men in red certainly looked fitter and sharper, especially as the game entered the final quarter.

Pressure paid off, and after a super headed flick-on beat the keeper but failed to find the foot of a Milford attacker, a final all-out attack paid dividends as sub Khanyisani Radebe latched onto a loose ball and his first-time, left-footed shot saw Magesi keeper Elvis Chipezeze groping at fresh air as the ball entered the far corner of the goal.

The well-packed stadium went bananas as the ref blew an end to what had been a titanic struggle.

They aren’t there yet, but unbeaten Milford have the chance on Saturday to seal the deal when they host a desperate Cape Town City, who have lost both their games thus far.

A win for the Stallions will almost assure their place in the Betway Premiership next season.
