The return of prodigal Sanjeev
Sanjeev, the pet Indian mynah has his wings, but still returns home.
HAVING been saved from the elements as just a chick, Sanjeev, the Indian mynah, has become part of the Bristow family, who live in Mtuznini.
Sanjeev, who was fed by hand and literally brought back from death’s door, has been talking and singing away at the Bristow household for years.
A large handmade cage was erected outside the lounge doors and Sanjeev has been calling it home until last week, when the cage door was left open and he got out.
The family was devastated and thought that Sanjeev was gone for good.
However, the following morning, Sanjeev was waiting in the tree above his cage for the family to get up.
‘We were sitting outside his cage when, all of a sudden, Sanjeev flew down and sat on my hand demanding food’ said Nicki Bristow.
After spending a few hours in the trees, Sanjeev made his way back to the family and his cage, from where he he talked and shouted at them.
Sanjeev returns to his cage, which has been left open, for his daily bath and meals like clockwork now.
‘Its unbelievable, he waits for us and then comes to visit. On Monday he was sitting by our feet, as if he was going to sit and have a meal with us.’
