Three children died when a mini bus taxi collided with a cane truck near Pongola

THREE school children died and 13 were seriously injured when the mini bus taxi transporting them to school collided with a sugar cane truck on Friday morning.

KZN Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to the collision just after 7am on Friday on the N2 near Pongola, assisted by paramedics from a private ambulance service and army medics.

The team treated the patients at the scene before transporting them to Itshelejuba Hospital for further care.

The children were aged between seven and 15 years.

Two of the children sustained critical injuries, while the remaining passengers, including the minibus driver, were seriously injured.

The cause of the collision is being investigated by the police.
