Child Protection laws highlighted in 7-year-old's rape case.

ON the eve of Child Protection Week, a Zululand man was sentenced to 15 years in prison after he raped his seven-year-old brother.

The 20-year-old man, whose identity has been withheld to protect the victim,  appeared in the eSikhaweni Regional court where he was found guilty of having repeated abused the boy over a long period.

However the abuse was only reported to their parents when it was witnessed by a friend.

According Colonel Jay Naicker of the KZN SAP Media Centre, a case of rape was opened at the Mtunzini SAPS and was investigated by the Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS).

Detectives from the Empangeni FCS worked around the clock to secure the conviction.
