Family tragedy in Mtuba

A Mtuba man stabbed his girlfriend, killed his child then threw himself in front of a train.

TWO Mtubatuba families are in mourning after the tragic deaths of a toddler, and subsequent suicide of the father yesterday.

According to police, Thubani Erold Ndlovu, an employee at Boxer Supermarket in Mtubatuba, is believed to have left work yesterday morning to visit his estranged girlfriend in the Msinsi area of Mtubatuba.

A dispute apparently ensued, during which the 28-year-old stabbed his girlfriend multiple times in the chest and face.

He then allegedly threw their 18-month-old child onto the concrete floor. Ndlovu fled the scene of the crime and ended up at the platform at Mtubatuba’s train station.

At about 9.50am, as a cargo train approached the station, Ndlovu threw himself onto the tracks, dying on impact.

SAPS and emergency medical services were immediately called to the scene.

Ndlovu’s estranged girlfriend and child were taken by ambulance to Ngwelezane Hospital, where the child died from head trauma. The mother is recovering in hospital.
