Special unit’s triple success

Crack unit recovers weapons near Mtubatuba.

ACTING on information, members of the Richards Bay-based Operational Response Services (ORS) unit recovered three firearms and arrested three suspects in separate actions on Sunday night.

The weapons included a high-powered AK47 and magazine found buried outside a kraal at Ntondweni, near Mtubatuba.

A suspect, Amos Ndwandwe was arrested and appeared in the Mtubatuba Magistrate’s court.

In the Mpushini area, ORS operatives recovered a .303 rifle and eight rounds of ammunition, taking suspect Mica Madondo into custody at kwaMsane.

Also at Ntondweni, D Buthelezi was arrested and taken to kwaMsane after the recovery of a 9mm Norenco pistol.

The ORS division provides specialised operational response services to the community by, among others, maintaining public order, preventing cross-border crime, providing support during law-enforcement operations and carrying out medium-risk and high-risk operations.

This division consists of the Border Police, the SAPS Air Wing, the Special Task Force, Crime Combating units and Intervention units.
