ZULULANDERS can breathe a sigh of relief on Wednesday, 1 October after the Department of Energy announced a decrease in the price of petrol 95 octane, diesel and illuminating paraffin.
However, the price of petrol 93 octane and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) will increase.
Petrol 95 octane will decrease by 5 cents per litre, petrol 93 octane will increase by 2 cents per litre, diesel will decrease by 13 cents per litre, illuminating paraffin will decrease by 18 cents per litre and LPG will increase by 12 cents per kilogram.
South Africa’s fuel prices are adjusted on a monthly basis and are influenced by international and local factors.
According to the department, the reasons for the fuel price changes are mainly owing to the decrease in the price of crude oil, which leads to a decrease in the prices of petroleum products (petrol, diesel, illuminating paraffin and LPG) in the international markets as well as the depreciation of the Rand against the US Dollar, on average when compared to the previous period.
The slate levy remains unchanged at zero, in line with the self-adjusting slate mechanism, said the department.
