A 62-year-old bus driver allegedly raped a 14-year-old-girl in Phathani Reserve, KwaMbonambi
The young girl was on her way to her grandmother’s home for a ritual ceremony for her late father, but when her mother made contact with the grandmother she was informed that her daughter had not arrived.
Distressed she contacted a friend who had the bus driver’s contact number, but when she got hold of him he claimed he had dropped her off in Empangeni.
The mother immediately contacted the KwaMbonambi police, who received information that the bus was loading passengers at the Phathani bus stop at the time.
On arrival they found the young girl and the bus driver in his room.
A case of rape was opened, the bus driver arrested and he is being detained at KwaMbonambi SAPS pending further investigation.
