Foreigners caught selling goods illegally

The businessmen were each fined R3 000.

SIXTEEN foreigners were arrested on Friday for selling goods illegally in Richards Bay.

Police raided 15 shops, selling cell phones and second-hand products, owned by Pakistani and Nigerian suppliers who failed to provide business licences.

All of the product sold in the stores were, however, licit and was not confiscated.

The businessmen were each fined R3 000.

Richards Bay SAPS Acting Communications Officer, Capt Dilip Hurripersad said they will continue these operations, not only targeting non-national retailers.

‘If you own a business, ensure you are running it fully compliant with the law,’ said Hurripersad.

‘Get all your paperwork in order.

‘One of our aims is to stop the selling of stolen or illegal goods.’
