UPDATE: Rugby player’s shooting still being investigated
Rainer Wellmann was killed during a hunting trip in December last year.
THE investigating officer involved in the death of Rainer Wellmann will be collecting outstanding statements from witnesses in Gingindlovu this week.
It hoped that the case will then be able to proceed.
Rhinos rugby player, Wellmann was killed in a hunting accident near Melmoth on Saturday, 6 December.
The 23-year-old was out hunting with a group of friends on Boshoek Farm outside Melmoth.
It is alleged that another hunter fired a shot at a bush pig charging out of a sugarcane field.
Wellmann who was behind the animal was hit by the gun fire and, although he was rushed to the KwaMagwaza Hospital, he died of his injuries.
