Eskom must ‘pay back the money’ – DA
DA says Eskom used R63 million in bonuses instead of power stations.
EMBARKING on a national campaign, Democratic Alliance supporters in the uThungulu district took to the streets to address the electricity crisis in South Africa.
Dubbed ‘power to the people’ – the campaign seeks to call upon Eskom to pay back the R63-million used for bonuses and increases.
‘It is unacceptable that between 2008 and 2014, Eskom used millions to pay bonuses to incompetent employees when the money could have been used to address the lack of energy generation and power stations,’ said uThungulu Constituency Chairperson, Councillor Louis Fourie.
‘The campaign will draw to a close at the end of this month as the petition needs to be submitted to Parliament by 6 April.
‘Thereafter, we will start with a campaign to address human rights; especially the rights to freedom of expression and basic service delivery.
‘We plan to make a difference this coming election and bring about change,’ Fourie said.
