Leaking City pipes during drought

Community raises concerns of leaking pipes during a drought.

AS the district faces a drought and the City calls to curb water wastage, residents of Empangeni have raised concerns of a leaking pipe which has been unattended for almost two weeks.

The protruding pipe along Main Road outside the premises of the Hervormde Kerk and Zikhulise Entrepreneurial Skills Training Centre has seen a constant flow of water streaming down the road, with heavy flows in the morning which subside during the course of the day.

City of uMhlathuze Communications Manager, Mdu Ncalane said the matter is being addressed.

‘We are noting the leak and will dispatch our team to check what might be the cause and fix it as soon as possible,’ Ncalane said.

‘At the moment we cannot predict the cause until our water team has identified it. We thank the community members who brought this to attention.

‘In fact, the City of uMhlathuze always encourages citizens to report any water leakage be it in their household or on pipes.

‘As Monday marked World Water Week, we also urge the community to use water sparingly and distance themselves from any water wastage. People must always treat water as if it is the last drop.

‘The City will do its part to ensure the supply of water as well as act swiftly where there are leakages,’ Ncalane said.
