Angel living amongst the rubble
Khonazinhle Mthabela is the founder of the Non-Profit Organisation, Lithemba Youth Development.
WE can get away with many things, but aging is not one of them.
As with the fading lioness with blurred vision, her worries are her cubs she is leaving behind.
Doris Ngcobo (67) cries at such thoughts, as ill health attacks her from all sides.
Every day she looks at the world with tears in her eyes, but this time hope came knocking in the form of a young lady named Khonazinhle Mthabela.
The 24-year-old is the founder of the Non-Profit Organisation, Lithemba Youth Development.
Touched by Doris’ living conditions, Khonazinhle took it upon herself to find the means to build the ‘gogo’ a house.
Doris has raised six children, all of whom are not related to her.
Some of the children were brought to her by teens afraid of being disowned by their parents and turned out of their homes and some were brought by government.
Not far from where she lives, is a well-off family, who also left a disowned child with her.
The father had promised her maintenance of R200 a month, but to this day not a penny has landed in her hands.
Twenty-two years have passed with Doris living on the grounds of the African Gospel Church situated at King Dinuzulu suburb, but lately, with a new pastor, she finds her future uncertain.
An extension of her stay has been given by the church while she tries to find alternative accommodation.
An angel, who has been taking care of others for 22 years, finds herself in a dilapidated house with nobody to help except Khonazinhle who promises nothing but hope.
Anyone who can help may call Khonazinhle on 079 7188144.
