Birdswood hit-and-run suspect still behind bars

THE driver accused of a fatal hit-and-run incident in Birdswood almost two weeks ago, is still held in police custody.
Francis Ilonah (41) has already appeared in the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court three times on a charge of culpable homicide, but his case was again remanded on Tuesday to today (Thursday).
He was refused bail last week.
Ilonah allegedly knocked pedestrian Rodney Bentley (55) into a light pole at 8.30pm on 11 April at the corner of Nkoninga and Wagtail.
Bentley is believed to have died on impact.
