WATCH: The ‘Dad Bod’ is the talk of the town

Good News! Say goodbye biceps and hello bellies.

EVER heard the term ‘Dad Bod’?

If not, it’s time to come out of that cave you’ve been hibernating in.

No, I’m kidding. I was just as ‘deurmekaar’.

If you are signed up with Instagram, you’ll associate the term with the @collegedadbods account, which has a following of more than 23 000 people.

Apparently, ‘dad bod’ refers to the guy who is not perfectly chiselled with a well-defined six pack, but at the same time, is not unhealthily out of shape.

In other words, it refers to those of us who regularly hit the gym (after having a serious debate in our heads), but then goes home to eat a plate of pasta – because we believe we deserve it.

Research has discovered that nowadays many ladies are more attracted to the ‘ordinary’ looking guy compared to one of those GQ types. It gives them a sense of normality and creates the perception of the boy-next-door.

Now before those gym fanatics transform into one of their hulk personas and attack me with their superpowers, allow me to put your mind at ease.

You will still be relevant to a number of other ladies because at the end of the day, there will always be those female visual creatures who are shallow-minded.

What this means, is that you will still be able to visit the gym for two hours a day, seven days a week, wear those infamous wife-beaters and conceitedly stare at yourself the entire time.

So where did the term ‘dad bod’ originate?

That doesn’t matter.

What’s important is that we regular gents no longer have to torture ourselves in trying to bulk up and flex our (far away) hidden muscles.

We can still enjoy a lekker tjop en dop in-between the odd workout routine.

And on that note, three cheers (and six beers) to the fact that we don’t have to succumb to society’s unrealistic expectations… because believe it or not, males are not fully exempt from the pressures of this visual world we live in.
