UPDATE: Mashaba crash investigation ‘almost done’
The investigation has been handed over to the national authorities.
THE investigation into the cause of the crash that killed uThungulu Deputy Mayor and Musa Dladla ANC Regional Chairperson, Thulani Mashaba on 10 July, is ‘almost done’.
This according to spokesperson for the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), Simon Zwane.
‘The final report is close to being finalised and then it will be sent to the Minister of Transport,’ he said.
According to Zwane, the mandate of the RTMC determined that ‘high profile’ accident investigations were handled by them, as well as those with multiple fatalities.
He could not give an exact timeframe for the completion of the report, saying it would be ‘soon.’
Mashaba was killed and two of his bodyguards critically injured when the vehicle in which they were travelling overturned on the N2 near the Ballito off-ramp, .
Both bodyguards have since been discharged from hospital and are reportedly recovering at home.
